Attitude of Gratitude Day 2

Today it has been significantly harder to find those gems of gratitude and those peaceful moments. In light of that, I'm going to only shoot for seven on my list (since I am not sure to reach the extended ten).

1. Pepsi Throwback (It has been a real challenge to eat breakfast in the mornings. Due to the medication I am taking, items containing iron, calcium, and magnesium cannot be ingested two hours before or after the pill itself. Because of this I'm avoiding dairy, including butter, so the breakfast bagels have been plain and boring. Thankfully the Pepsi has helped me keep the food down and adds more zest to my meal.)

2. Burritos! (My loving husband made them up last night. So today when I started feeling ill and realized it was due to not eating for four hours I had instant food at my disposal. Quick to heat and get into my tummy before any further dizziness set in.)

3. Unexpected Email From Ray (When I emailed him expressing my thoughts on a subject he commented on the forums about, I never truly expected to get a response back. I only knew that his opinions and sentiments had touched me for the better and had wanted to share that with him. It was a pleasant surprise to hear back from him and gain even more insight into the soul of a very kind individual.)

4. Quiet Time Together (I'm still sick and generally unhappy but I did still cherish the time I spent curled up with Steve on the couch and watching V and First Place together.)

5. Spontaneous Phone Calls (Aimee called me this afternoon and I was able to return her call - her timing was good because I had just finished doing a warm compress on my eye about three minutes before the phone rang. We spent most of the afternoon talking and sharing insights into life and tossing around ideas for our stories. It was an uplifting way to spend the day and take my mind off of all the troubles that beset me.)

6. Packages from Mommy! (The box came yesterday and it contained my snoopy flannel pants and my Jim Brickman backpack. My loving Mom carefully sewed the four inch rip in the inseam of the pants and repaired the horrible gash I cut into the backpack when inexpertly opening the cheap envelope it came mailed in. I was thrilled to get my items in their newly repaired condition! And I enjoyed the note and the stickers on the outside of the box. You have to admit: Stickers make you happy! No matter what age you are, they make you smile. And so do handwritten notes from people you love! Thanks Mom!)

7. A Handwritten Card (A few weeks ago my sweet friend Melodie sent me a card in the mail. It took me awhile to sort the mail and then a day or so after to open and read the card. When I did I was truly touched by the sentiments she expressed inside. I am really grateful for the love of my kind friend and the way in which she reached out to me. The card is a reminder of how much I am cared for and it came at a time when I particularly needed to feel the warmth of friendship in my life!)

That's my list for the day. I hope you all get a chance to make a list of your own and recognize the small gems in your life. May they sparkle in your darker moments and may you share them and that light with others on your way.
